CONSENTRATING ON THE LAW: A Program of Self-Directed Legal Research for Prison Course Givers
An introduction for "the most con-wise veteran to the complete and utter novice" who wants to present a legal research program to prisoners. Course material, handouts, tests, as well as sources for teachers are punctuated with "Helpful Hints" boxes to provide suggestions for success. Preparation checklists are helpful for organizing workshops or continuing education experiences. Topics covered include why law libraries are in prisons, writing the startup proposal, the actual course material, suggestions for customizing the courses, and suggested teaching aids. William Mongelli has been a correctional librarian for more than 20 years. He has taught numerous seminars and online courses to criminal justice professionals, library science students, and prisoners enrolled in legal research and bibliotherapy programs.
